Phuket Beach Life

All those beautiful postcards don’t lie. Phuket and gorgeous white beaches are synonymous. That’s why this month’s issue of Phuket.Com magazine concentrates on the island’s shores.

To carry on with our beach scene theme we pick two hotels located on beautiful strands – The Chedi and the Impiana Phuket Cabana. We also review Sala Bua and Da Ali, two restaurants right on the beach and one where you can get sand between your toes as you eat.

For a bit of action, Sam Wilkinson takes us snorkelling at Coral island and then goes island-hopping with Coral Seekers. We also have a special guide to the top five beaches on the island as well as the best five ‘secret’ beaches for you to discover. And if you’ve had enough of the sand, let us introduce you to the fascinating world of the mangrove forests.

In October, the two big events on the island are the Vegetarian Festival and the Phuket Film Festival. If you are here then, be sure not to miss them. The fun continues in November, with Phuket Carnival that ushers in the annual tourist high season. Enjoy!

Coral Island
It’s amazing how hot it can get at 09:00 in the morning. Thankfully, at Chalong Pier there’s plenty of shade and benches on which to sit with a cool drink. There are a lot of people here and their faces – in spite of their wildly differing nationalities – show just three basic emotions. There’s anticipation on foreigner’s faces, determination on the tour guides’ faces and pure bewilderment on children’s faces. Read more...

This month, following our beach theme, Sam Wilkinson dons his sunglasses and sun cream and takes his bucket and spade to Ristorante Da Ali on lovely Laem Singh Beach. What did he see in the seafood? Did he get crabby over the fish? Was he as red as a lobster in the sun? Find out inside. Our very own gastronaut also went to sample the fine dining at Sala Bua, in Impiana Cabana right by the sand of Patong Beach where he sampled the renowned cuisine of award-winning chef Ronnie Macuja. Within the Mangroves
Images of mangrove forests rarely appear in material advertising the delights of Phuket. The short trees grow in mud along the shore, lack majesty, and don’t have flowers worth talking about. But they are a crucial part of Phuket’s tropical and coastal ecology. Read more...
